McKeon Statement on Supreme Court Decision to Overturn Longstanding D.C. Gun Ban

Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) today issued the following statement after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller that the District's handgun ban violates the Second Amendment:

"Today's decision by the Supreme Court affirms that the Founders established the Second Amendment as an individual right to bear arms, and declares the thirty-year D.C. handgun ban unconstitutional.

"The Court ruling guarantees every law-abiding American the right to self defense and is a major victory for gun owners, liberty, and individual freedom."

NOTE: Congressman McKeon was one of 250 Members of Congress and 55 Senators that filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the Supreme Court in support of repealing the D.C. handgun ban.
