Tiberi Signs Discharge Petition To Force Vote On No More Excuses Energy Act

U.S. Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH) late yesterday joined his colleagues in signing a discharge petition to send H.R. 3089, the No More Excuses Energy Act, to the House Floor for consideration and a vote. A Discharge Petition, requires the signature of a majority of Members, and allows a bill to be voted on without being called up by leadership.

"The time is now for this country to begin reforming our current energy policy. With Ohioans paying nearly $4 per gallon for regular unleaded gas and the price of a barrel of oil well over $130, my colleagues can actually do something about the price of oil by signing the discharge petition and bringing the No More Excuses Energy Act to the Floor," said Congressman Tiberi. "We've taken small steps to decrease energy prices such as voting to temporarily suspend the federal gas tax and encourage the use of alternative fuels, but this bill would round out our nation's energy reform efforts. We have a domestic production shortage and the Majority has not permitted a vote to allow for oil exploration or to increase domestic production. This bill would increase refining capacity, allow for environmentally-safe domestic energy exploration, encourage the use of alternative energies and remove restrictions on safe nuclear energy production. While Central Ohioans are digging deep into their wallets just to pay for their commute to work, it is wrong to refuse a vote on a bill to help ease high gas prices."

Editorials in newspapers across the country agree the time to act on the nation's energy policy is now. USA Today writes in favor of environmentally-safe domestic energy exploration while Investor's Business Daily describes how the Majority has done little to reduce energy costs.
