Fortenberry Urges the Convening of an Emergency Energy Summit

Earlier this week Congressman Jeff Fortenberry sent letters to the President, the Secretary of Energy, and House leadership requesting that an emergency energy summit be convened to examine the rising cost of petroleum and gasoline.

"Skyrocketing gas prices are causing severe hardship for families, communities, and businesses," Fortenberry said. "There seems to be no end in sight. I believe the urgency of the circumstances warrants a new bipartisan approach between the Congress and Administration, experts, analysts, and business leaders to address this burgeoning problem. This collaborative effort should fully analyze and understand the effects of commodity speculation and other potential factors - rising demand, supply restrictions, inflation, boutique fuels, lack of sustainable alternative sources, geopolitical instability, OPEC, and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve - in order to find ways to provide energy sustainability.
