Dingell Thanks Environmental Defense for TV Ad Supporting Strong Climate Change Legislation

Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15), Chairman of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce, thanked Environmental Defense Action Fund today for the television advertisement they are running in Michigan and across the country advocating for strong climate change legislation.

"I am thankful to Environmental Defense Action Fund for running this ad because I agree with their principal message: we need strong climate change legislation to address the threat of global warming. That is why I championed an energy bill last year that raised the fuel economy of automobiles by 40% and increased efficiency for everything from light trucks to light bulbs, and did it while protecting American jobs. This bill put us on the path towards meeting our greenhouse gas emission goals as its reductions are equivalent to taking all cars, trucks, and planes off the road and out of the skies for five years. And as Environmental Defense knows, I am working diligently on climate change legislation that will include a cap-and-trade program that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60-80% by 2050. The threat of global climate change is very real and we need the participation of everyone - from TV viewers watching this ad to my friends at Environmental Defense to the White House - on the effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Much has to be done on this subject and I intend to continue to lead."
