Michaud Supports Governor's Request for Public Disaster Assistance for Penobscot County

Press Release

Date: May 22, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Mike Michaud issued the following statement after sending a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) supporting Governor John Baldacci's request that Penobscot County be made eligible for Public Assistance programs. Public Assistance, oriented to public entities, can fund the repair, restoration, reconstruction, or replacement of a public facility or infrastructure, which is damaged or destroyed by a disaster.

"Homes, small businesses, and public infrastructure in Penobscot County were harmed like those in Aroostook County. I was pleased that individual assistance was previously granted. Today I sent a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency strongly supporting Governor Baldacci's request that Penobscot County be made eligible for Public Assistance. If this assistance is granted, funding and services will be provided to Maine communities to rebuild after the damage caused by flooding. I will continue working with the Governor to ensure that all of the eligible areas in Maine receive the recovery assistance that they need."
