Premium Tax Holiday For Democrats

Congressman says middle-class Americans have suffered enough under Democrats' wave of tax tsunami priorities

Representative Thomas M. Reynolds (Clarence) today blasted House Democrats for their failure to pass legislation that would help millions of Americans avoid the alternative minimum tax (AMT) next year. Reynolds pointed to the Democrats' delayed action last year on fixing the AMT for one year.

"With gas prices skyrocketing and the Democrats tax and spend agenda emptying the bank accounts of middle-class families, Congress needs to pass AMT relief," said Reynolds. "Middle-class Americans have suffered enough under Democrats' wave of tax tsunami priorities."

Democrat Tax & Spend Earnings Statement

* The Mother of All Tax Hikes. Ways & Means Chairman Charlie Rangel's tax plan would impose a four percent surtax on Americans (including small businesses) earning more than $150,000 a year.
* A 50-cent increase per gallon federal gas tax hike proposed by Energy & Commerce Chairman John Dingell (D-MI) to be inserted into energy legislation.
* The Democrats' reckless budgetary blueprint. Budget calls for the largest tax increase in American history. Under the Democrat budget, the average taxpayer in New York will pay $3,658 more in taxes.
* Late on passing Alternative Minimum Tax relief. Democrats forced Congress to wait until the latest point ever in passing a one-year AMT patch, forcing the IRS to delay printing tax forms.

"We need to pass AMT relief now so the 'Stealth Tax' will not creep up on millions of Americans next year," concluded Reynolds. "Whether it is record gas prices or job-killing tax hikes, middle-class Americans are tired of broken Democrat promises. They want relief and they want it now."
