Klein Applauds Final Passage of Jupiter Lighthouse Measure

U.S. Representative Ron Klein (FL-22) applauded the final passage of legislation designating the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse an outstanding natural area. Klein was a co- sponsor of the original House legislation, which passed last month. The bill was then approved by the Senate and sent back to the House for final passage. The vote on final passage came this evening, under suspension of the rules.

"At long last, we have given the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse the special designation it deserves,"
Klein said. "This designation will preserve the natural and cultural significance of this area for
future generations, and will reaffirm that Florida's history is an important part of our American
history."

With the passage of today's legislation, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is now officially an
"outstanding natural area," a Congressional designation of a natural area to protect its unique
scenic, scientific, educational, and recreational contributions to this and future generations. This designation is the first ever east of the Mississippi River.
"I was proud to work with my friend and colleague Tim Mahoney on this issue," Klein said. "I
commend his leadership. I also appreciate the efforts of Nick Rahall, the Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee, in moving this important legislation forward."
