U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, today announced that funding for initiatives to enhance workforce training in the 5th Congressional District will be awarded to Louisiana Delta Community College.

Delta will receive $238,755 in Workforce Investment Act (WIA) pilot, demonstration, and research funds from the Fiscal Year 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriation.

"As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I consider these funds an investment into Delta's continued efforts to strengthen north Louisiana's economy by building a skilled workforce that will draw new businesses into our area," Alexander said.

Bob Hammack, Director of Workforce Development at Delta, said he agrees the funding will enable Delta to move forward in its mission to empower northeast Louisiana's workforce.

"We appreciate Congressman Alexander's efforts in obtaining these funds to enhance workforce development in northeast Louisiana," Hammock said. "He has long been aware of the workforce needs of our area and has demonstrated his commitment to meet those needs."

Dr. Luke Robins, Chancellor of Delta, added, "We're excited to hear that this earmark has been approved and we look forward to working with the Department of Labor to develop a proposal that will enhance workforce training in northeast Louisiana."
