Southeast Texas chamber of commerce executives showed the regional flag Wednesday in Washington, D.C., to ensure continued support for issues of area concern.

Jim Rich, Sabrina Gray and Mary Ann Reid, the presidents of the Beaumont, Orange and Port Arthur chambers, respectively, met with Sen. John Cornyn, who promised to keep working with them for economic growth.

"I remain committed to working with local leaders to facilitate economic growth and expand job opportunities in Southeast Texas," Cornyn said in a press release.

The senator expressed support for workforce training partnerships, improving port security and making "key tax relief passed in recent years" permanent.

Cornyn also updated the region's chamber executives on his meeting this week with U.S. Army Secretary Pete Geren Tuesday in which Cornyn said he urged him to work closely with the Army Corps of Engineers so that Congress can move forward with Sabine-Neches Waterway improvements.
