KENNEDY ON SCHWARZENEGGER LETTER URGING EXTENSION OF UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE

Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, issued the following statement in response to today's letter from California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger calling on Congress to extend unemployment insurance benefits:

"This important letter is further evidence that we need to act - and act now - to extend working families a helping hand in this faltering economy. Helping workers support their families while they look for new jobs is a matter of basic decency and fairness and should not get sidetracked by partisan politics."
