Pence Calls Expiration of FISA Reforms "Colossal Mistake," Urges Congress to Forgo Recess and Complete Legislation

U.S. Congressman Mike Pence issued the following statement today regarding the decision by the Democrat Majority to allow the Protect America Act to expire (PAA). The PAA updates the federal law allowing America's intelligence agencies to conduct surveillance on foreign terrorist communications.

"The decision by the Democrat Majority to allow the Protect America Act to expire is a colossal mistake that jeopardizes the ability of our intelligence community to gather information necessary to protect our country. Allowing this vital surveillance law to expire this weekend is unconscionable. Congress should not adjourn for the February recess until the Protect America Act is renewed. Our enemies will not be taking a week off, Congress shouldn't either."
