Dingell Statement on 90% Score from the League of Conservation Voters

Press Release

Date: Feb. 21, 2008
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Conservative

The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), one of America's most effective environmental advocacy organizations, gave Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) high marks for his votes on environmental and conservation policies. Based on his actions on twenty different votes, LCV gave Congressman Dingell a score of 90 out of a possible 100. He and Congressman Sander Levin (D-MI12), who also received a score of 90, got the highest marks of any Michigan Members.

LCV applauded the Congressman's votes on clean energy, CAFE standards, reducing global warming and offshore drilling. When told of the high marks, the Congressman said:

"The greatest honor that I get from the League of Conservation Voters is the long running support they have given me while pursuing a shared goal - making the earth cleaner, safer and healthier for us and our children. The organization is a leader in the effort to reduce greenhouse gases, and as I work to reduce greenhouse gases by 60-80% by 2050, I will continue to look to LCV for help and friendship in this work. The LCV has joined with me and other like-minded Members in our struggle with a White House that treats environmental laws like an obstacle. I want to thank the LCV for the high score, and for its support of good sound environmental policy."

LCV President Gene Karpinski said: "The League of Conservation Voters applauds Chairman Dingell for his excellent score of 90% in 2007. We commend his leadership during the first session of the 110th Congress to move America toward a clean energy future, and we look forward to working together to make more progress in 2008."
