Today, Mike Johanns filed the necessary paperwork with Secretary of State John Gale's office to officially become a candidate for the U.S. Senate.

Since announcing his candidacy for the Senate over four months ago, Mike Johanns has been traveling across Nebraska, talking about his conservative experience and the Nebraska values he will take to Washington. Johanns has been listening to Nebraskans in coffee shops and hospitals, banks and schools, nursing homes and community centers, and in their homes.

"I want to be Nebraska's next United States Senator, to put my conservative experience to work for Nebraska families, small business owners, farmers and ranchers," Johanns said. He stresses his platform on the campaign trail:

- protecting the unborn with a pro-life and pro-family agenda;
- lowering taxes and controlling federal spending;
- securing our borders and homeland, with no amnesty for those who have broken our laws;
- supporting the war on terror, including supporting our troops and their families; and,
fighting for an energy policy that makes America more energy independent.

"I'm committed to earning every vote, and to meeting face-to-face with as many Nebraskans as possible," said Johanns. "We have been spending time in communities all over our great state, and will continue to reach out to voters in every corner of Nebraska."

Johanns is focused on running the kind of positive campaign Nebraskans can be proud of. "The tone in Washington must change," Johanns has said. "Americans want their leaders to work together. Just as I've done as mayor, governor, and in the President's Cabinet, I'll work to bring people together to focus on the priorities that will make our state and our nation stronger."
