Congressman Phil Hare (D-IL) received an "A+" on the nation's only middle-class Congressional scorecard for his votes on health care, education, trade, and taxes.
"I am honored to be recognized for my work on behalf of the middle-class," Hare said. "At a time when so many Americans are grappling with rising college costs, high gas prices, and the loss of good-paying jobs, it is our responsibility to pursue polices that help working families make ends meet."
The Drum Major Institute for Public Policy (DMI), which released the scorecard and is widely recognized as "America's middle-class think tank," said Hare "demonstrated a sincere desire to strengthen and expand America's middle-class, with the votes to prove it."
"The middle-class squeeze isn't inevitable. It is the result of decisions made by those we elect to represent us," said DMI Executive Director Andrea Batista Schlesinger. "Important legislation was voted on this year, ranging from health care and education bills that were aimed at alleviating middle-class burdens to misguided trade agreements and tax policies that were skewed towards wealthy Americans. Members cannot tell the public they support the middle-class but then cast votes against them. Those who kept their word, like Rep. Phil Hare, deserve every accolade they receive."
