Businessman Dan Meuser of Luzerne County is seeking the Republican nomination for the 10th Congressional District.

Meuser, who will be 44 on Sunday, is president of Pride Mobility Products, a company started by his family that manufactures mobility products for the disabled and employees about 1,2000 people with plants in Exeter and Duryea.

The candidate describes himself as a conservative whose business experience has prepared him "to deal with the fiscal challenges facing (the) nation today."

"I know the importance of balancing a budget, the need to provide family-sustaining jobs and the burden that over-regulation can impose on the economy," he said after announcing his candidacy.

According to Meuser, "in many ways, Washington, D.C., is broken" and a place where "far too often ... the politics of special interests defeat common sense solutions that would best serve the interests of our citizens."

He said his vision of "being an effective representative for the 10th Congressional District means focusing on district issues and accomplishing goals."

According to his campaign manager, Eric Wallace, Meuser has been in this area about a dozen times in recent months, getting to know local officials and their problems.

Meuser responded to questions about several issues drawing local attention.

On tolling Interstate 80, he said he opposes the proposal because tolling would be "harmful to our local economy and would make our area less competitive."

He said he understands this city's desire for more police officers.

"Investing in local law enforcement has a tremendous return on investment in our quality of life," he said. "As a member of Congress, I will do everything I can to make sure Williamsport and other cities throughout the 10th District are safe."

He also weighed in on the cost of cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay, saying the cost "should not show up in sewer bills of seniors and working families."

"We have got to work with public officials, taxpayers, businesses and agricultural leaders to find a reasonable solution," he said. "Homeowners and taxpayers should not carry the burden of this unfunded mandate. As your Congressman, I will help lead the discussion to find an acceptable solution."

Meuser lives in the Back Mountain region of Luzerne County with his wife, Shelley, and their three children.
