A Message From Justice Daniels:
Thanks to all who have helped so much in making our campaign such an extraordinary success. As Joe Monahan said in his political blog after we learned that I will be unopposed in both the primary and the general elections, we have now won the November election.
Some weeks ago, I decided not to accept campaign contributions from anyone outside my family and the law firms we had founded, and my campaign staff have been returning any contributions that have been sent to us. While I know that the donations are made in the interest of good government and that I would never be influenced by any contributions, even unfounded suspicions on the part of the public could cause a lack of confidence in the judicial system I now serve. I appreciate the generosity of the would-be donors, even though they must always remain anonymous to me.
I also did not want to accept public financing, which ultimately is paid from the money of taxpayers whose average income is less than my own salary. We have therefore self-funded the expensive, but thankfully short, campaign that we are now in the process of closing down. If at least one of you remembers to show up and vote for me in November, I will be able to continue to serve as a Justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court.
Thanks again for your support. I pledge to you, and to all New Mexico citizens, to do all in my power to live up to the trust that you have placed in me.
Justice Charles W. Daniels
