Tancredo Statement on the State of the Union

Representative Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) released the following statement on President Bush's State of the Union address delivered this evening:

"It's shameful and disappointing that President Bush has squandered the opportunity to secure our borders every year since the tragic attacks of September 11, and that he and his allies, like Senators McCain and Kennedy, continue to pursue this dangerous and wrong-headed amnesty proposal. Saying we can't secure our border without an amnesty is like saying one can't go fishing without a tractor; it just doesn't make sense. The fact that the President is talking about giving amnesty to some 12-20 million illegal aliens at the same time Americans are concerned about the slowing economy is, in a word, mind-boggling. Maybe next year we will have a Chief Executive who appreciates the value of borders and citizenship."
