Washington, DC -

Senator John Kerry issued the following statement today on the American soldiers killed in Iraq this weekend.

"It is with a heavy heart that I extend my sincerest sympathies to the families of the six American soldiers killed in Iraq this weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and continue to be with the loved ones of the 560 other U.S. troops who have been lost since the war began.

"We can never do enough to honor the sacrifice these brave men and women make for our country. And we must never lose sight of the fact that there are families that pay an incalculable price as well. I can only hope that they understand that grateful nation grieves with all of them today."
