HULSHOF LAUDS PASSAGE OF S-CHIP EXTENSION
Congressman Hulshof applauds the extension of S-CHIP, the State Childrens Health Insurance Program.
The following is a statement from U.S. Congressman Kenny Hulshof regarding today's vote to extend the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) through March 2009:
"Today's bipartisan vote to extend SCHIP through March of 2009 is good news for those who rely upon this safety net. As evidenced by its passage (411-3), the House is united in continuing this program that we created during my first term in Congress.
"Today's action ensures that all necessary resources will be provided to maintain those who currently take advantage of SCHIP.
"We have extended the program without a regressive tax increase or slashing over $200 billion in Medicare benefits, as proposed by House Democrats. This vote proves there is strong support to extend this program rather than to expand it to childless adults and illegal immigrants.
"It is my hope that the political posturing on this issue will be put to rest once and for all, and that future debate over SCHIP will be focused on reaching a sensible, bipartisan solution that improves SCHIP on behalf of low-income children."
