Chairman Filner Names Kimberly Ross Staff Director of DAMA Subcommittee

Congressman Bob Filner (D-CA), Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, named Kimberly Ross as staff director for the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee (DAMA). Ross will oversee subcommittee activities on legislative and policy issues, including work to reduce the benefits claims backlog and oversight of pension, compensation, insurance and memorial affairs issues.

Prior to becoming staff director, Ross served as the professional staff member of the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee. Ross previously served as the legislative director and counsel for the Office of Congressman Elijah E. Cummings. Serving in the office of Representative Cummings since the 107th Congress, Ross developed legislative strategy, managed the appropriations process and provided counsel on House Floor activity. She also worked for two years for the office of Senator Barbara A. Mikulski as a senior legislative assistant focusing on judiciary, education and technology issues. During the 109th Congress, Ross was selected to participate in the Stennis Congressional Staff Fellowship Program. Before coming to Capitol Hill, she was a regulatory attorney at Sprint Communications and before then, the Maryland Public Service Commission. Ross holds a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.

"Kimberly Ross has a solid record of working to improve the lives of America's veterans," said Chairman Filner. "I am confident that the Members of the DAMA Subcommittee will greatly benefit from her counsel and experience."
