CARNEY: U.S. SHOULD BE A LEADER IN RENEWABLE ENERGY

Town Hall Meeting in Selinsgrove focuses on energy and environmental issues

Congressman Christopher P. Carney today held a town hall meeting at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove. Approximately 50 people attended and asked questions ranging from the environmental and renewable energy to State Children's Health Insurance Program.

"It's time for the United States to become a leader in renewable energy," said Congressman Carney. "I am glad this town hall gave me an opportunity to hear firsthand from the people of Northeast and Central Pennsylvania about energy needs, on a local and national level. I am a firm believer that an investment in renewable fuels helps lessen our dependence on foreign oil. This is not just sound environmental policy, but a matter of national security," said Carney.

On the State Children's Health Insurance Program, Congressman Carney expressed his support for the legislation and the need to provide children's healthcare. Congressman Carney has twice voted to override President Bush's veto on the legislation.

The town hall meeting was Congressman Carney's 12th in a series of 14, one in each county that makes up Pennsylvania's 10th District.
