Jackson Jr.: "Al Gore Deserves the Nobel Prize"
Congressman Jesse L. Jackson Jr. today congratulated Al Gore for winning the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for his work documenting the problem of global warming and potential solutions.
"Long before global warming was a household word, Al Gore was shining a light on the problems associated with greenhouse gases and manmade climate changes. Today he is probably the world's leading proponent for protecting our planet.
"All the top scientists agree that global warming is a real and expanding threat to all living species which, if ignored, could jeopardize the very future of Planet Earth," Jackson said.
"Al Gore earned and deserves this award. I applaud my friend and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for their efforts to monitor planetary changes and their advocacy to reverse the devastating impacts of global warming. I also applaud the Nobel committee for recognizing this universal emergency."
Gore, the former vice president under Bill Clinton, has spent years touring the world to raise awareness about global warming. Earlier this year he won an Academy Award for his documentary film on the topic, "An Inconvenient Truth."
