PICKERING PRESENTED HUMAN HEART AWARD
Medtronic Foundation honors Pickering for his outstanding support in heart health
Wednesday night, Congressman Chip Pickering along with eight other members, was awarded the "Human Heart Award" for his outstanding support and advocacy in areas of heart health. The award was presented by Medtronic Foundation and 13 national patient advocacy organizations in celebration of the PBS series the Mysterious Human Heart.
"It is a privilege to receive the Human Heart Award from such a prominent group of organizations who are devoted to combating the battle of heart disease everyday," said Pickering. "I believe we are making substantial efforts in heart research. This is evident nationwide, in the production of the Mysterious Human Heart series, and back at home in Mississippi with the Jackson Heart Study, which is the first large scale cardiovascular disease study in African Americans. These combined efforts to share our research and knowledge will produce valuable answers - resulting in more effective ways to prevent and treat this disease that affects so many Americans."
This three part public television series will explore the wonders of the human heart and include interviews with the world's leading experts on heart health. The program will feature true-life encounters from the patients and doctors who are on the front lines of the battle against heart disease. These personal and powerful stories will provide insight into how to prevent and treat heart disease when it strikes.
Heart disease affects more than 60 million Americans at a cost of $368 billion each year. Mysterious Human Heart will premiere October 15th on PBS.
