KCCI - Clinton: Ability To Win Biggest Selling Point

Candidate Says She Knows How To Run Winning Campaign

AMES, Iowa -- Democratic presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that preliminary political polls mean nothing, even though she has an 8 percent lead in the latest Iowa Poll.

Clinton said she is focused on working hard in Iowa. She added that she is not looking past the Democratic nomination, but she's confided that she can win in 2008.

"I could have had a baby in that time that I've been campaigning," she said.

With another three months to go before the Iowa caucuses, campaigning is far from over for Clinton.

"From the beginning of this campaign here in the state, I've tried to travel around and meet as many Iowans as possible, answer their questions (and) listen to their concerns," she said.

That's what Clinton said she must continue to do if she wants to build on her support in Iowa and ultimately win the Democratic nomination.

The presidential hopeful talked about retirement in Webster City, as part of her new Iowa tour that focuses on the middle class.

Clinton said her qualifications and experience give credibility to her plans for the future.

"I think as more Iowans get to know me, they make the connection between what I've done for 35 years and what I would do as president," Clinton said.

Clinton said her biggest selling point for voters is that she can win.

"I think one of the strongest cases that I can make to voters is that I will win in November 2008," she said. "I know how to run a winning campaign and to keep it on the messages important to the future of Americans."

Clinton also made it clear that she's ready to take on any Republican competitor.

"We're not going to allow the Republicans to define this election," she said.
