For Immediate Release
"Today, the voters of Maine have sent a message that George Bush's days are numbered and change is coming to America. I am truly honored and humbled by the confidence that so many of you have shown to me in this contest, and I thank you.
"And I promise you that when the Republican smear machine trots out the same old attacks in this election, this is one Democrat who will fight back. I've fought for my country my entire life, and I'm not about to back down now. We will have a debate in this country about how to bring back jobs, restore prosperity, provide health care to every American, and make America safer and stronger in the world. And when the American people are faced with a choice between the extreme direction the Bush Administration has taken us and the mainstream values I will fight for, we will win that fight.
"I know a new day is coming for America. A new day with good jobs for everyone who's willing to work hard, and true justice for everyone who's willing to stand up for our ideals. That new day - that new America - is right around the corner. And I look forward to all of you standing with me to make it happen."
