ROSKAM INTRODUCES RESOLUTION CALLING ON ILLINOIS TO DEFEND EMPLOYERS' RIGHT TO EMPLOYEE VERIFICATION
Washington, Sep 27 - Congressman Peter J. Roskam (R-IL) today partnered in introducing a resolution calling of the Governor of the State of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, to defend employers' right to employee verification and released the following statement:
"An employer's right and ability to comply with federal law must not be preempted by any state.
"The federal government has an obligation to enforce the immigration laws and Illinois' meddling in this matter is constitutionally questionable.
"Employers must have tools available to ensure compliance with immigration laws in order to be held accountable for who they hire.
"I believe this Illinois law is bad for our nation, and quite rightly so does the United States Department of Justice and United States Department of Homeland Security.
"I am proud to stand with my colleagues today in support of this resolution and I hope that the Governor and his administration take this action, as well as the federal lawsuit, as a clear sign that this law must be repealed."
