Sensenbrenner Votes to Help Wisconsin's Innovators

Earlier today, the House of Representatives passed HR 1908, the Patent Reform Act, by a vote of 220 to 175. Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Menomonee Falls), who voted for the bill, issued the following statement following the vote:

"Patent reform is vital to the state of Wisconsin, as well as to our nation's economy. The bill that passed the House today reflected a lot of time and effort by people like me, and my colleague from Madison, Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin.

Together, we fought to include provisions in the final bill that would be fair to individual inventors, small businesses, and non-profits, including universities. To that end, it was helpful to receive the input of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, which had some very real and legitimate concerns with earlier versions of the legislation.

Passage of today's bill demonstrates that some issues transcend politics because fairness should not be shackled by partisanship. Though not perfect, the bill Tammy and I voted for is better than what was originally drafted a few months ago, and it goes a long way toward helping innovators in our state."
