Radanovich Calls for Natural Resources Committee Hearing on California Water Crisis

Water Deliveries to be Cut by One Third

WASHINGTON - Congressman George Radanovich (R-Mariposa) today sent a bipartisan letter to Rep. Nick Rahall, Chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources and Ranking Member Rep. Don Young, urging an investigatory hearing on the impact of Federal District Court Judge Oliver Wanger's recent decision regarding the Delta pumps. Twelve members of the California delegation joined in signing the letter.

"At a time where California is experiencing a terrible drought, the decision to pump less water out of the San Joaquin Delta could yield devastating effects to our economy," said Radanovich. "The Natural Resources Committee has as responsibility to California water users to proactively seek a solution to the impending water crisis."

Judge Wanger issued the ruling Friday August 31, 2007 in Fresno, CA. Water deliveries to the Southern San Joaquin Valley, Southern California, and the San Francisco Bay area could be reduced by one third as a result of Wanger's decision.
