Governor Huntsman Announces Blue Ribbon Panel

State Superintendent Patti Harrington appointed as Director

Governor Jon Huntsman announced the formation of a newly organized Blue Ribbon Panel commissioned to study testing methods in Utah K-12 public schools. The panel will concentrate on streamlining testing with particular attention to testing methods that could fulfill all Utah student testing requirements. Governor Huntsman has asked State Superintendent Patti Harrington to direct the panel.

"A first-rate education for our students is among one of my top priorities," Governor Huntsman said. "I want to ensure that Utah testing methods provide enough information about how we can improve student achievement and instruction as a state."

Additional goals of the panel are to assess that testing is more classroom-based, providing immediate diagnostic results in reading, writing, math and science, leading children toward college and university study, and is more cost-effective.
