Hare Statement on the 6th Anniversary of the 9-11 Attacks

Washington, Sep 11 -

Congressman Phil Hare (D-IL) today released the following statement to mark the 6th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

"The horrific events of September 11th will always remain etched in the minds of the American people.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who lost loved ones on that fateful day.

"This anniversary is an opportunity to remember both the victims and the heroes of 9-11.

"We honor the courageous first responders who risked their lives to save others.

"We also pay tribute to the brave servicemen and women that continue to fight the war on terror.

"The 9-11 attacks awoke our nation to the real threat of the international terrorism. Six years later, we cannot afford to get complacent.

"Earlier this year, Congress finally implemented the 9-11 Commission recommendations on a bipartisan basis.

"The 41 recommendations submitted to the Administration and Congress are designed to improve homeland security, prevent terrorists from acquiring Weapons of Mass Destruction, and develop strategies for preventing the spread of Islamic terrorism.

"Today and always, we must honor the victims of 9-11 by protecting our homeland and remaining vigilant in the fight against terrorism."
