HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii Congressman Neil Abercrombie says the utmost consideration must be given to the readiness of the armed forces when Congress resumes debate over the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.
Abercrombie says the U.S. can't continue on the present course of troop deployment and redeployment.
The Democrat also says the defense budget won't be able to support the war in Iraq, as well as troops in Afghanistan.
Abercrombie has authored a bill calling for the Bush administration to report to Congress on its plans for troop redeployment.
Abercrombie is chairman of a House subcommittee that has jurisdiction over the budgets of the Army and Air Force.
