Issue Position: Transportation

Issue Position

Las Vegas remains one of the fastest growing community in the United States. The Valley's transportation infrastructure must keep up as more families and more businesses call our community home and more visitors choose to vacation in the entertainment capital of the world. I am working closely with state and local transportation officials to alleviate congestion, expand transit options and improve air quality.

While serving on the House Transportation Committee, Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, I helped craft legislation reauthorizing our nation's transportation programs for the next six years. I secured more than $46 million for important southern Nevada highway and transit projects in this bill, including improvements to the Las Vegas Beltway, I-15 and U.S. 95, new highway interchanges, the Martin Luther King Boulevard-Industrial Road Connector, a new Downtown Intermodal Transportation Center, and a new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route along Boulder Highway. The bill also included funding to construct a new state-of-the-art, high-speed "Maglev" (magnetic levitation) rail line between Las Vegas and Primm, and to begin building a new Hoover Dam bypass bridge spanning the Colorado River. These projects are all part of long-term plans to ensure Nevada's transportation
links are up to the challenges of the 21st Century.

I also served as a member of the House Tranportation Subcommittee on Aviation, where the security of the flying public and improving our nation's aviation system took priority. McCarran International Airport is the lifeblood of our community, bringing millions of tourists to the Las Vegas Valley each year. I will continue to fight to ensure that McCarran has the funding and resources it needs to make Las Vegas' residents and visitors safe and to keep our passengers moving.
