Rep. Blumenauer is supportive of a consistent engagement on the part of the United States. He favors multilateral efforts that engage the United Nations and other countries around the world in attempts to deescalate hostilities in key points. In Israel and Palestine, he supports the Administration's efforts to simultaneously bring an end to outrageous acts of terrorism, and establish negotiations toward establishment of a Palestinian state. Congressman Blumenauer has actively pursued legislation and diplomacy to promote peace, reconciliation, and economic development in the Middle East. Providing needed medicine, aid, and sanitation infrastructure to civilians also counts as one of Rep. Blumenauer's priorities in the Middle East. He supports legislation that would allow an exemption of food and medicine from the U.S. sanctions on Iraq.
