Press Release

Date: Aug. 3, 2007
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) released the following statement today in response to last night's vote on a measure that would have added language to the FY 2008 Agriculture spending bill to prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving taxpayer-funded Federal benefits:

"The genesis of the conflict on the House floor isn't just about an arrogant abuse of the rules , but more importantly reflects the depth of commitment by Democrats to provide illegal immigrants with government benefits in order to secure their vote."

Congressman Rohrabacher was one of over a 100 Republican Members of Congress to protest the Democrats' invalidation of a successful vote on a motion to recommit the FY2008 Agriculture spending bill in order to remove provisions that would allow federal funding for illegal immigrant health care and housing benefits.
