WALBERG SUPPORTS BILL BLOCKING AUTOMATIC PAY INCREASE FOR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS IN 2008

U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) today issued the following statement in support of H.R. 2934, a stand-alone bill to block the automatic pay increase for members of Congress in 2008. Walberg is a co-sponsor of the bill.

"Right now, the American public is frustrated with Congress and voting to increase member salaries is the last piece of legislation this Congress needs to be considering," Walberg said. "Additionally, Michigan is in an economic recession and its leaders need to be making sacrifices to bring the Wolverine state back to prosperity. For these reasons, I do not support a pay raise for members of Congress in 2008. My time is best spent on the initiatives that matter to south-central Michigan: making tax relief permanent for millions of Americans, working toward energy independence, restoring our Great Lakes and making health care more affordable and accessible."
