KENNEDY APPLAUDS HOUSE PASSAGE OF LEDBETTER FAIR PAY ACT
Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, released the following statement in response to the passage by the United States House of Representatives of the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2007.
"No American should be denied equal pay for equal work. Employees' ability to provide for their children, save for retirement, and enjoy the benefit of their labor should not be limited by discrimination. The Court's decision undermined these bedrock principles by imposing unrealistically short time limits on such claims. I'm pleased to cosponsor the bill with a bipartisan group of colleagues in the Senate, and I look forward to moving the bill forward to finally correct this basic injustice."
