Governor Brian Schweitzer announced today that he will order the National flag to be flown at half-staff in Montana when a member of the Armed Forces from Montana is killed in the line of duty.
"It is with great honor that I implement this Act passed by Congress in Montana," said Governor Brian Schweitzer. "Our soldiers deserve no less than on of our nations highest honors, flying the flag at half-staff."
The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the Army Specialist Joseph P. Micks Federal Flag Code Amendment Act of 2007. The Act was signed into law on June 29th. The amendment title reads as follows:
To amend title 4, United States Code, to authorize the Governor of a State, territory, or possession of the United States to order that the National flag be flown at half-staff in that State, territory, or possession in the event of the death of a member of the Armed Forces from that State, territory, or possession who dies while serving on active duty.
The Governor will order the flag flown at half-staff two days prior to the funeral or memorial service until sundown the day of the service for Montana soldiers killed in the line of duty.
