HOUSE GOP REJECTS SENATE IMMIGRATION BILL

House Republicans, including U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady, (R-Texas) voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to oppose the immigration bill currently under debate in the Senate. The vote was 114-23 to reject the Senate approach. This important vote unified a majority of House Republicans under a single banner to work together to try and defeat the bill if and when it clears the Senate and is sent to the House.

"Even though debate is not yet finished, it's clear the Senate bill will not secure the border, will not stem the tide of illegal immigration, and will not solve the workforce needs of America's economy in the future," said Brady. "In many ways this bill is worse than the amnesty bill pushed through Congress in the 1980's. They need to go back to the drawing board."

The independent Congressional Budget Office recently unveiled it's analysis of the Senate bill, reporting that it will decrease illegal immigration by only one-quarter - continuing the migration of millions of immigrants across U.S. borders.

Brady believes our nation's first priority is to secure the border and enforce the immigration laws already on the books before considering a guest worker program. Congressman Brady has vowed to oppose any bill containing amnesty for illegal immigrants or Social Security benefits for illegal workers. He has stated repeatedly that "the back door of illegal immigration must be shut so the front door of legal immigration can remain open."
