Moran Honored with 2007 Navigator Award

Congressman Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, was presented with the 2007 Navigator Award by the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies last night during their 8th annual awards ceremony. The award is presented each year to Members of Congress and representatives from academia and industry who have distinguished themselves in the support of science and technology policy.

"America's continued prosperity relies on our maintaining a scientific and technological edge over global competitors," said Moran. "Northern Virginia has been a leader in that effort, providing the gigabytes needed to power our country's science and tech boom. Congress continues to play a major role in this effort, providing the resources to spur innovation and out of the box synergy. And with the Potomac Institute's wealth of knowledge readily available to all Congressmen and women, the future holds great promise. I am honored to receive this award."

The Navigator Award was named to reflect that national leadership in science and technology policy is a never-ending process of finding the way ahead. Past recipients include Senator Pat Roberts, Congressman Sherwood Boehlert, Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger, retired General Al Gray -- former member of Joint Chiefs of Staff and Dr. Rita Colwell -- former head of the National Science Foundation and noted professor.

The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies is an independent, 501(c) (3), not-for-profit public policy research institute. They identify and aggressively shepherd discussion on key science, technology, and national security issues facing our society, providing an academic forum for the study of related policy issues. From these discussions and forums, they work to develop meaningful policy options and ensure their implementation at the intersection of business and government.
