CARNEY: OUR VETERANS DESERVE FULL FUNDING

Congressman Christopher P. Carney voted to give the Department of Veterans Affairs the funding it needs. The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill increases the VA budget by $6.7 billion above the Fiscal Year 2007 level. The bipartisan bill passed in the House of Representatives on Friday, June 15th, with a vote of 409 to 2.

"I came to Congress with a pledge that I would always support our troops. The Department of Veterans Affairs was critically under funded. As more of our brave men and women return home from combat, we must provide the necessary resources for their care and re-acclimation. By funding the Department of Veterans Affairs to adequately address these problems, we can ensure quality health care for 5.8 million patients, including about 263,000 veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan," said Congressman Carney.

"We live in a great nation that can provide the best resources available for our military. But the strength of our military is also judged by how we provide for our troops and military families when they return home. Fully funding the Department of Veterans Affairs is long overdue. I was proud to vote for the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill. I was proud to provide more qualified doctors and nurses for our Veterans, improving both access to health care and waiting time for medical appointments. In addition, this legislation will keep our VA Health Care facilities up to date," said Carney.

"All veterans have a right to the best health care our country can provide and this bill will help to make sure that happens," concluded Carney.
