Governor Directs Government Agencies And North Dakotans To Display The American Flag

In accordance with a proclamation signed by President George W. Bush, Gov. John Hoeven has declared Thursday, June 14, Flag Day in North Dakota and has directed officials to display the American flag on all government buildings at full staff throughout that day. He also encouraged North Dakotans to observe Flag Day by flying the Stars and Stripes from their homes and other suitable places.

"The American flag represents freedom and stands as an enduring symbol of our nation's ideals and unity," Hoeven said. "By displaying and respecting the flag, we honor this great country and the brave men and women in uniform who have served and sacrificed to protect our liberty, from the early patriots of the Continental Army to the courageous Americans who are defending our nation around the world today."

Hoeven also called upon North Dakotans to observe the days from Flag Day through Independence Day as a time to honor America, to celebrate this nation's rich heritage and to express gratitude to those who have secured our freedoms and those who carry on that proud tradition.
