CONGRESSMAN DAN BURTON INTRODUCES DISABLED VETERANS COMMISSARY AND EXCHANGE STORE BENEFITS ACT

Congressman Dan Burton [R-IN-05] today introduced the "Disabled Veterans Commissary and Exchange Store Benefits Act"; a bill to extend military commissary and exchange store privileges to disabled veterans and their families. The introduction of this bill fulfills a promise Congressman Burton made to disabled Hoosier veterans and former Congressman Mike Sodrel who sponsored the bill during the 109th Congress.

Said Burton, "I have always worked hard to ensure that this Nation repays the debt we owe to the fighting men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. The Disabled Veterans Commissary and Exchange Store Benefits Act is a common-sense bill that will go a long way in terms of helping our disabled veterans get the most out of their dollars."

According to the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA), veterans and service personnel who shop at the more than 230 Commissaries across the globe save an average of 29.7 percent on their grocery bill.

Concluded Burton, "When it comes to those who have become disabled in their service to our Nation we should go above and beyond. Our disabled veterans are important members of the greater military family, and they should be treated as such with every available opportunity."
