Bring U.S. Troops Home Now
Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) has issued the following statement for the Bring the Troops Home Now event in Teaneck, NJ on Wednesday of Memorial Week.
"President Bush's stubborn refusal to respect the will of the American people and change course in Iraq is wrong. Our brave servicemen and women should not remain stationed in the middle of an Iraqi civil war. Last week, I voted against the latest Iraq supplemental legislation because it failed to move us any closer to getting U.S. troops out of Iraq. Key provisions that would have required the Defense Department to honor its own standards for troop readiness, training and equipment before sending our soldiers into battle were also removed from the bill.
"As a Member of Congress, I will continue to fight to end the U.S. combat involvement in Iraq, to provide our troops with the resources they need to succeed in the real war against terrorists, and to ensure that our soldiers and veterans are better taken care of when they return home.
"For those among you who have lost a son, a daughter, a spouse, or a friend to war, I hope you will please reach out for me if I can ever be of any assistance or comfort to you. I will be there for you, as the one you lost was there for all of us.
"May God bless you, may God bless our troops and veterans, and may God bless America this Memorial Day."
