SENATE PASSES LANDMARK MEDICARE REFORM BILL
Bennett votes yes for prescription drug coverage for Utah seniors
WASHINGTON, D.C. - With more than 40 million Americans depending on Medicare for their primary health care needs, Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah) says today's Senate passage of bipartisan prescription drug legislation marks a significant step forward in reforming the nation's outdated Medicare system.
"We must bring Medicare into the 21st century," said Bennett, "and providing a prescription drug benefit for seniors, like every other health care plan in this country, is the place to start. Though this bill is not perfect, it breaks down 40 year-old barriers to innovation and change and moves us in the right direction. Medicare on its current course is not sustainable; it will self-destruct. I support this bill because I want it to survive."
