U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette: Bring Troops from Iraq Home Now

Chief Deputy Whip Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement today on H.R 2273, To Provide for the Redeployment of United States Armed Forces and Defense Contractors From Iraq and HR 2206 the, US. Troops Readiness, Veterans' Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act, 2007.

"Today, I joined 170 of my colleagues in the US House of Representatives to end the war in Iraq. H.R. 2237 would provide for the redeployment of United States Armed Forces and defense contractors from Iraq. It would halt the escalation of the Iraq War, begin bringing our troops home within three months and redeploy all military forces from Iraq within six months."

"I believe it is high time to begin the redeployment of our troops from Iraq. I voted against going to war in Iraq in the first place, and I am proud to vote to end it now. I will continue to advocate for a responsible end for this irresponsible war."

"Though H.R. 2237 did not pass, I did support H.R. 2206, the US. Troops Readiness, Veterans' Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act, 2007, which gives President Bush another chance to come to the table to negotiate with Congress and bring an end to the war in Iraq. If he chooses to again ignore this opportunity to find common ground, Democrats in Congress will stand our ground, until our troops come home."
