Governor O'Malley Signs Legislation to Improve Maryland Health, Public Safety

Today, Governor Martin O'Malley joined with Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr., House Speaker Michael E. Busch, and Lieutenant Governor Anthony G. Brown to sign legislation to protect health and public safety in Maryland. Governor O'Malley signed 164 bills into law today

"Nothing is more important than protecting Maryland's families, and today I am proud to sign legislation that will strengthen public safety and public health in our State," said Governor O'Malley. "Today, I am proud to sign bills that will increase penalties for gang members and child sex offenders, increase funding for Juvenile Services, and support the health of our population with greater Medicaid reimbursements and the first-in-the-nation Baby Boomer Initiative Council."

"This session we worked closely with the legislature to pass a number of bills to improve public safety in our communities and public health throughout our state," said Lt. Governor Anthony Brown. "We can only achieve our shared goals of improving education, strengthening our economy, and protecting the environment if we can first keep Maryland families safe and healthy."
