Ros-Lehtinen Pleased With Vote In The Transportation & Infrastructure Committee That Includes Provision That Would Authorize A Review Of The Key West Harbor Project

Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is pleased with today's vote in the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee that includes a provision that would authorize a review of the Key West Federal Harbor Project.

The port of Key West possesses special significance as it not only caters to multiple cruise industry ships but also serves the US Naval Air Facility Key West and the US Coast Guard's Sector Key West division. The port is also of utmost importance as it greatly contributes to the local economy of Monroe County.

However, the current depth channels in the Port of Key West are limiting its capabilities to better serve and expand its service and this is where this provision will help the Port of Key West. The provision will provide a two phase study process that will begin with a reconnaissance study followed by a feasibility study to determine future plans.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, "I am pleased that my staff was able to successfully work with the Transportation Committee to secure this important provision for Key West and for all of Monroe County. This is only a small step but nonetheless a step in the right direction. I will continue working to secure that the Port of Key West continues to be the important port of call it is today."
