Statement on President Bush's Veto of the Iraq Accountability Act

U.S. Representative Tom Allen issued the following statement on President Bush's veto today of The Iraq Accountability Act, legislation to support American forces and redeploy them out of Iraq:

"By passing the Iraq Accountability Act, Congress charted the course to bring our Armed Forces home safely by ending U.S. involvement in the Iraq civil war. By vetoing this bill, the President has prolonged their presence in the cross fire of a conflict that shows no sign of an end. The President refuses to face the reality of the situation in Iraq and the growing public rejection of his policies here at home. I will vote to override this veto and urge Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate to provide the leadership the American people so desperately seek, seize the initiative to change direction and begin to reunite our troops with their families."
