Capps' Statement On Supreme Court Decision Requiring EPA To Regulate Green House Gases

Today, Congresswoman Lois Capps released the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision ordering the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to consider regulating green house gases. In a five to four ruling, the Supreme Court sided with 11 states, including California, which sued the U.S. EPA in an attempt to force the agency to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from new cars and trucks.

"This is an extremely important ruling," said Capps a Member of the Natural Resources Committee and the Energy and Commerce Committee. "Global warming is the environmental challenge of our generation and the Environmental Protection Agency should use all tools at its disposal to address it, including regulating carbon dioxide emissions from autos. I am pleased that California is once again taking a lead role in protecting our environment. I'm just sorry that we had to go all the way to the Supreme Court to get the Bush Administration to act."
