U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today reaffirmed his commitment to the protection of the unborn by signing on as an original co-sponsor of the yet-to-be introduced, bipartisan, Pregnant Women Support Act.

The bill, to be sponsored by Rep. Lincoln Davis (D-TN), is intended to provide resources that enable pregnant women to choose life by ensuring pregnant women are not denied health care by insurance companies, extend the State Children's Health Insurance Program to pregnant women and unborn children, and provide new mothers with free home visits by registered nurses.

"In far too many cases, the choice of an abortion is based on a lack of resources to care for the child during and after pregnancy," Boozman, a member of the Bipartisan Congressional Pro-Life Caucus said. "This bill is a compassionate, common-sense bill which will empower women by giving them greater options and opportunities to choose life.

"Women who are in a desperate state should no longer see abortion as their only choice. This is why this legislation is so important. It focuses on meeting the needs of pregnant women and provides the support necessary when a woman chooses life for her unborn baby," Boozman added.

The Act also makes the Adoption Tax Credit permanent, provides parenting education, and provides counseling for pregnant women and childcare for student parents on university campuses.
